Subedaar and Maa Behen Dominate Ormax Media OTT Rankings, Emerge as 2026’s Most-Watched Original Hindi Streaming Films

The prestigious list, largely dominated by theatrical releases that later premiered on digital platforms, highlights the growing audience appetite for compelling original content.

The achievement marks a significant victory for filmmaker Suresh Triveni, who directed both films, and producer Vikram Malhotra, whose vision helped bring the two projects to life. While Subedaar delivered an emotionally charged action drama, Maa Behen won audiences over with its entertaining blend of crime, comedy, and social messaging. Their success demonstrates Triveni’s versatility as a storyteller, capable of excelling across vastly different genres.

Produced by Abundantia Entertainment, Subedaar was created in collaboration with Opening Image and Anil Kapoor Film & Communication Network, while Maa Behen continued the successful creative partnership between Triveni and Malhotra. The films have not only captivated Indian audiences but have also made a strong impression internationally.

Subedaar became the most-watched Indian Amazon Original during its opening weekend and featured in Amazon Prime Video’s Top 10 rankings across 31 countries. Meanwhile, Maa Behen climbed to the No. 2 position among Netflix’s global non-English film rankings and trended in 15 countries, reflecting its widespread international popularity.

The twin success further strengthens Abundantia Entertainment’s reputation for backing content-driven cinema with memorable characters and fresh storytelling. Over the years, the production house has delivered acclaimed titles such as Shakuntala Devi, Sherni, Jalsa, Airlift, Toilet – Ek Prem Katha, and the Chhorii franchise. With Subedaar and Maa Behen now setting new benchmarks for original streaming films, the company has once again demonstrated that authentic storytelling can compete with and even surpass the appeal of established franchises in the OTT era.

Operation Safed Sagar Trailer Review: Inside Netflix’s Untold Story of the Indian Air Force’s Kargil Mission

Centred on the Indian Air Force’s historic Operation Safed Sagar and the brave air warriors of the Golden Arrows Squadron, the series looks beyond the familiar battlefield narrative to spotlight the extraordinary role played by the IAF during the conflict.

The trailer immediately creates an atmosphere of urgency, duty and sacrifice. Siddharth leads the ensemble, while Jimmy Shergill, Abhay Verma, Dia Mirza, Prajakta Koli, Adil Hussain, Mihir Ahuja, Taaruk Raina, Arnav Bhasin and Amrita Bagchi feature in pivotal roles. The combination of experienced performers and younger faces gives the series an ensemble-driven appeal, particularly as the story explores the pressure faced by young air warriors during one of India's most challenging military operations.

One of the most emotionally significant aspects of Operation Safed Sagar is its connection to real people and real events. Siddharth portrays Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja, whose story remains one of the most poignant chapters associated with the Kargil conflict. At the trailer launch, Ahuja’s wife, Alka Ahuja, was present, making the moment particularly emotional for the actor and the team. Siddharth reportedly became visibly emotional during the interaction, underlining the responsibility that comes with portraying a real-life military hero.

The series is directed by Oni Sen and created by Abhijeet Singh Parmar and Kushal Srivastava, with Sanjay Routray, Sarita Patil and Mehboob Pal Singh Brar serving as producers. The makers have also undertaken extensive research and consulted Indian Air Force veterans, while filming across operational IAF bases and using access to real aircraft and infrastructure to add authenticity to the visual world.

What makes the Operation Safed Sagar trailer stand out is its promise to tell a military story through the people behind the mission. Rather than relying only on spectacle, the trailer hints at the fear, responsibility, camaraderie and emotional cost of warfare. The high-altitude setting further adds to the tension, reminding viewers that the IAF's mission unfolded in some of the world's most demanding combat conditions.

Visually, the trailer appears designed for a cinematic experience, with aircraft, aerial combat and operational sequences creating a strong sense of scale. At the same time, the presence of real-life heroes and their families at the trailer launch adds another layer of emotional credibility to the project.

With Operation Safed Sagar, Netflix appears to be attempting something more than another patriotic war drama. The series seeks to revisit an important chapter of the Kargil War through the eyes of the Indian Air Force and honour the men and women whose courage helped shape the outcome of the conflict.

Trailer Verdict: Powerful, emotionally charged and technically ambitious, the Operation Safed Sagar trailer creates genuine curiosity. With Siddharth leading the story of Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja and a strong supporting cast, the series could emerge as a compelling tribute to the Indian Air Force and the unsung heroes of the Kargil War.

Operation Safed Sagar is directed by Oni Sen and is set to premiere on Netflix on August 7, 2026.
