“Anupamaa Is Always Seen in Cotton Sarees”: Rupali Ganguly’s Fun Reaction to Her Glamorous Makeover for Star Plus Fashion Special

Television audiences are eagerly counting down to one of Star Plus’ most anticipated events of the year, ‘Fashion Ke Rang, Rishton Ke Sang’. The channel’s upcoming fashion extravaganza, airing on June 1 at 7 PM, has already created significant buzz among fans and industry insiders alike. Often being described as television’s own version of the Met Gala, the special event promises an evening filled with glamour, entertainment, cultural celebration, and unforgettable moments.

What makes the event even more exciting is the fact that viewers will get to see their favorite television stars stepping away from their on-screen personas and embracing completely new avatars.

Star Plus Celebrities Celebrate India’s Cultural Diversity

Unlike their everyday television appearances, several actors will take to the ramp in state-inspired outfits that highlight the richness and diversity of Indian culture.

Popular characters Prem and Raahi will represent Gujarat through traditional Gujarati-inspired ensembles. Meanwhile, Sayali and Sachin will showcase the vibrant spirit of Maharashtra. Armaan and Abhira are set to bring the colorful essence of Rajasthan to life, while Sriti and Shabir will pay tribute to Madhya Pradesh. Angad and Vrinda will also be seen embracing Gujarati fashion influences during the event. The unique concept has generated tremendous excitement among fans who are eager to watch their favorite stars in fresh and stylish looks.

Rupali Ganguly’s Glamorous Transformation Becomes the Talk of the Event

Among all the celebrities participating in the fashion special, it is Rupali Ganguly’s stunning transformation that has grabbed the most attention.

Best known for portraying the beloved character Anupamaa, Rupali is usually seen wearing simple cotton sarees on-screen. However, for this special event, the actress embraced a glamorous fashion-forward look, leaving fans pleasantly surprised. Speaking during the event shoot, Rupali shared a light-hearted reaction to her makeover. “I had posted a Met Gala-inspired post a few days ago. I was having so much fun seeing fans transform their costumes into Met Gala looks. That’s where Star Plus also got the idea. Honestly, I am enjoying this because we rarely get opportunities to wear outfits like these. Anupamaa is always seen roaming around in cotton sarees, so this gives me a chance to do something different. Make sure you watch our Star Plus special on June 1.” Her candid and humorous comment instantly resonated with fans, who have loved seeing a completely different side of the actress.

Behind-the-Scenes Videos Go Viral on Social Media

Adding to the excitement, behind-the-scenes videos from the event have been circulating rapidly across social media platforms. Fans are actively discussing the fresh looks, glamorous styling, and unique fashion statements showcased by the television stars. The viral clips have only increased anticipation for the grand telecast, with many viewers calling it one of the most awaited television specials of the season.

The red carpet of the Met Gala 2026 turned into a celebration of Indian luxury, heritage, and avant-garde couture as Gujarati-origin fashion icons Isha Ambani, Natasha Poonawalla, and Mona Patel emerged among the most talked-about celebrities of the night.

Held at the iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Met Gala 2026 theme “Fashion Is Art” witnessed Indian elegance dominating global headlines. The trio represented modern Indian luxury with breathtaking couture, rare jewels, and dramatic styling that blended heritage craftsmanship with futuristic fashion.

Isha Ambani Brings Royal Indian Heritage to the Met Gala

Isha Ambani reaffirmed her status as a leading global ambassador of Indian couture in a custom gold-thread sari by designer Gaurav Gupta, styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania. The handcrafted sari, which took over 1,200 hours and involved more than 50 artisans, featured intricate zardozi embroidery, pichwai motifs, sculptural drapes, and diamond-studded detailing. Her jewellery, a highlight of the evening, included over 1,800 carats of diamonds, emeralds, and heirloom pieces from her mother Nita Ambani's collection, such as a historic sarpech and layered diamond necklaces. Her beauty styling featured glowing skin, sleek hair, gold-toned nails, and a dramatic jasmine-inspired hair sculpture. The look was globally praised for blending Indian royalty with contemporary couture.

Natasha Poonawalla Turns Fashion Into Wearable Art

Natasha Poonawalla made a memorable impact at the Met Gala, wearing a sculptural orchid-inspired piece by British artist Marc Quinn with a white Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda gown. Her look perfectly embodied the gala's "Fashion Is Art" theme, combining art installation with couture fashion. The striking orchid sculpture added a futuristic, museum-like quality, making her a highly photographed attendee. Her jewellery featured statement pieces from Outhouse Jewellery, including the standout Seanymph Chain Veil Ring, complementing her avant-garde style. Natasha's sleek styling, bold confidence, and minimalistic makeup allowed the outfit and jewellery to shine, earning praise from fashion critics for her fearless approach and transformation of fashion into performance art.

Mona Patel Channels Leonardo da Vinci in Couture Masterpiece

Entrepreneur and philanthropist Mona Patel once again proved her dominance on the global fashion stage with a spectacular Renaissance-inspired appearance. She wore a custom gold-and-white Alta Moda gown by Dolce & Gabbana inspired by the artistic genius of Leonardo da Vinci. The outfit reflected anatomical precision and artistic detailing inspired by da Vinci’s iconic works, including references to the Vitruvian Man and Renaissance art. Fashion experts described her look as one of the most intellectually creative interpretations of the Met Gala theme. Mona paired the couture ensemble with extraordinary diamond jewellery from Kantilal Chhotalal, featuring asymmetrical diamond earrings, solitaire climbers, and a luxurious Toi et Moi ring with pear and emerald-cut diamonds. She completed the ensemble with custom heels by René Caovilla and soft glam makeup that balanced the dramatic couture structure with elegance and sophistication.

The 2026 Met Gala, held on May 4th with the theme "Costume Art," highlighted a significant Indian presence that celebrated heritage craftsmanship. Prominent attendees included Isha Ambani in a Gaurav Gupta gold sari-gown, Karan Johar in a Raja Ravi Varma-inspired Manish Malhotra outfit, along with Natasha Poonawalla, Ananya Birla, Sudha Reddy, and Princess Gauravi Kumari.

What is Met Gala?

The Met Gala, officially known as the Costume Institute Benefit, is an annual haute couture fundraising event held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute on the Museum Mile of Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. Widely considered the world's most prestigious and glamorous fashion event, it is where fame, wealth, power, social influence, and spectacle converge and reach their zenith. Attendees have the chance to showcase their fashion sense, often creating elaborate and highly publicized outfits inspired by the evening's theme and cultural context. Organized by the fashion and glamor magazine Vogue, it's known as "fashion's biggest night", where "haute couture meets history to create the ultimate cultural moment – all in the name of art". Dubbed "the world's most exclusive party", an invitation is highly coveted. Invitees are typically individuals recognized as culturally significant in today's society at the intersection of various professional fields, including fashion, digital and social media, tech, music, Broadway, Wall Street, film, television, sports, and politics.
