The Communiqué News

21 March, 2023, Mumbai: To mark the occasion the release of Songs Of Surrender, Island Records and Interscope have announced U2SOS40, a one-of-a-kind collaborative project in which 40 artists and creators from around the world were invited to create a 60-second piece of content, each soundtracked by a re-recorded U2 song.

The result is 40 new visual interpretations of U2's music - 40 stories by 40 creatives - to commemorate the release of Songs Of Surrender, a collection of 40 seminal U2 songs from across the band's catalogue re-recorded and re-imagined for 2023.

Artists include Indian-born Tanima Mehrotra who documented her local skate crew in Mexico City who “embody the kind of freedom that comes with youthful curiosity”; Ben Elias, a director and cinematographer from New Zealand whose film is “a walking tour of Aotearoa starring my grandparents”; Alana O’Herlihy, a multidisciplinary photographer, director and mixed media artist who, decided to take the very serious subject matter that Sunday Bloody Sunday is about, and juxtapose it with those coming of age moments for women, and that loss of innocence."; and Yanya Yatsuk, a U.S.-based Ukrainian-born photographer who wanted to “make something that told a story about love”.

Each piece will be shared by the respective creator on their social media channels over the coming weeks, linked by the hashtag #U2SOS40.

A one-hour Zane Lowe interview special on Apple Music and The Edge and Bono's first-ever NPR Tiny Desk performance were both released today in conjunction with Songs Of Surrender. The two also paid a visit to the renowned Maida Vale studios of the BBC last month to perform three songs for Radio 2's Piano Room with the help of musicians from the BBC Concert Orchestra: "Vertigo," "One," and a cover of "SOS."

‘Bono & The Edge: A Sort Of Homecoming, with Dave Letterman will make its Disney+ debut. The movie, which was directed by Academy Award®-winning director Morgan Neville, follows Dave Letterman on his first trip to Dublin, where he meets Bono and The Edge in their hometown, explores Dublin, and performs with the two U2 players in a show unlike any other.

PRE-SAVE NF’S FORTHCOMING ALBUM 'HOPE'

NF tells it like it is on his unapologetic new single "MOTTO," which is out today via NF Real Music/Virgin Music. The second single from NF's upcoming HOPE album (due April 7) finds the multi-platinum hitmaker at his most defiant, dissecting the state of the music industry. Finally, he decides to ignore trends and just do him. "MOTTO" is accompanied by a captivating visual that gathers hundreds of fans for a mock awards show.

NF stated, "I could write a record full of radio songs, do a bunch of features that my label would love,” the MC, real name Nate Feuerstein, raps. “Sounds like a nightmare if you ask me, went from my bedroom to the big leagues.” By the anthemic chorus, NF is ready to share his approach to music stardom. “You might see me in the same clothes I had on last week, am I ashamed? No,” he declares. “You heard the saying if ain’t broke, don’t fix it that’s my motto.”

The song's unapologetic message is reflected in the video, which was directed by Patrick Tohill and features NF attending a spoof industry awards show. Almost 1000 fans from all over the world volunteered as extras at the Nashville, TN shoot, proving that the rapper hasn't forgotten his day-ones. It even recreates lyrics from "MOTTO" ("you might catch me at the award show, eatin' popcorn in the back row"), demonstrating that NF hasn't lost his sense of humour.

"MOTTO" is the second single from NF's highly anticipated fifth album, also titled HOPE, which is set to be released on April 7. It's the rapper's first album since the platinum-selling The Search in 2019 and his first longer project since CLOUDS in 2021. (THE MIXTAPE). The response to the lead single suggests that HOPE may be NF's most successful album to date, with the song receiving 32 million global streams in its first week. It debuted at #28 on the Top 200 Consumption Chart in the United States, while the video trended at #1 on YouTube for more than a week.

HOPE is the multi-platinum, Billboard chart-topping rapper's fifth studio album. NF is known for rapping quick-witted lyrics over hip-hop beats and cinematic production, which has earned him the title of one of the Top 50 Most Streamed Rappers of All Time and established him as one of the most consumed artists today. NF's HOPE is a 13-track album that features Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Julia Michaels and rapper Cordae.
