Rotary Club announces 20th Global Poster painting competition

New Delhi [India], June 5: Rotary Club of Delhi South West District 3011 is proudly organizing its yearly Signature event of "Painting Competition" for the 20th consecutive year on June 12, 2022, and the registration is open till 10th June 2022. Ever since 2002, RCDSW has been organizing On the Spot Painting Competitions for school children. Over a period of the past 20 years, as many as 1.50 Lakh plus students from more than fifteen hundred schools across Delhi NCR have participated in the offline painting competition.

With the start of the Pandemic in 2020, when globally, Online and Work from Home became the new normal, RCDSW also took a leap forward by organizing Competition - Online from local Delhi NCR to a Global scale and also extending the competition to all age groups. The competition now is divided into five categories based on different age criteria. Rotary Online Global Poster Making Competition offers a wide choice of competition subjects or themes to choose from. The competition not only connects children and adults but also addresses various challenges related to humanitarian, environmental, and social issues.

The president of Rotary Club of Delhi South West- S.B. Singh says that "The Painting competition is like an extravagance for the painters of all age groups as they use their brilliance of painting blended with the perceptions they display on the painting sheet. I see a better future for art in a world." Director of VRAKSH MANAGEMENT says that-"This very year, the 20th Rotary Global Online Painting Competition is very special for us. The hard times experienced everywhere have allowed us to go GLOBAL this year. Our audience shall experience the uniqueness we have brought in to engage our eminent guests who have agreed to bless all our participants, I on behalf of the hardworking team behind this competition, give all the participants best of wishes."

MIFF Campus: Addressing a masterclass on ‘Aesthetics of Sound in Cinema’ at the 17th Mumbai International Film Festival- MIFF 2022, Shri Pookutty said, “Sound generates the desired meaning in a film, as envisioned by the director.

Sound has the ability to define the space and meaning. Camera only catches a picture, which is abstract, with sound its meaning is defined, said Resul Pookutty.

He further said that a sound designer does the selective listening for audience. “As a sound designer I select from umpteen numbers of sounds available with me and present a package to the audience, which becomes a holistic experience for them”, he added.

Narrating his experience of the Oscar award winning film Slumdog Millionaire, Shri Pookutty said, human brain processes sound in a certain way, which a sound designer must understand. “I designed sound for Slumdog Millionaire on the basic idea of how a human brain processes sound? Accordingly we recorded the sound using multiple cameras and designed it”.

Talking about different forms of sounds used in filmmaking, the noted sound designer said, “In films we broadly use five different types of sounds which are: Production Sound, Foley sound, Ambience Sound, Designed Sound, and Music.”

“While designing sound, we have to keep in mind, the context of story, vision of the director and socio-cultural aspects in which it is being set”, he said while citing the experience of the film ‘The Good Road’.

Differentiating between a dialogue and speech, he said spoken dialogue thrown into an acoustic environment, captured by a microphone with emotion becomes a speech. “When we deal with a dialogue in a film, we are actually trying to create a speech, which will set an emotional connection with the audience”, he added.

Resul Pookutty is a leading sound designer, production mixer, sound effects, foley editor and post-production re-recording mixer who has brought Indian cinema sound to a new level. Passionate about sound, he is the master of a multitude of techniques and equipment Blending technology with strong Indian aesthetics. Pookutty has recorded, edited, engineered and designed more than 90 films in a short span of his illustrious career, and won national and international recognition for his work.

Pookutty is the recipient of numerous awards and honours for his contribution to cinema including the Academy Award of Merit, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts-BAFTA and the Cinema Audio Society (CAS) awards for his work in Slumdog Millionaire (2008). His award-winning filmography includes Roar-Tigers of Sunderbans, Unfreedom, India's Daughter and Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja. He has also been conferred with the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2010.

Viral video shows Mona Lisa painting being vandalized

Paris [France], May 30: The internet is left shocked and stunned after a viral video of a man at Paris's famous Louvre museum, disguised as an 'old woman', smeared cake all over the Mona Lisa painting on Sunday.

In the bizarre incident, the man, dressed like an old woman, jumped out of a wheelchair to smear the renowned painting of the Mona Lisa with cake. Netizens have flooded social media with videos and images of the painting stained with cake cream. Much to the shock of the onlookers at the museum, the man threw cake at the iconic painting before attempting to break through the bulletproof glass, meant to protect Leonardo da Vinci's famous portrait. Eyewitnesses confirmed that the perpetrator, who was sitting in the wheelchair, got up abruptly and walked towards the painting. After he failed in his attempt to smash the display glass, he threw cake on the painting, smearing the cream all over the panel of glass.

The man also sprinkled rose petals on the floor before the security knocked him down. In the viral video, the lawbreaker was seen shouting at the visitors in the museum in French.

A Spanish media interpreted his words as, "some people are trying to destroy the earth, think of the earth!" The man dressed as an elderly woman also wore a wig. Apparently, he entered the museum in a wheelchair, before he resorted to vandalism. The motive behind the attack is still unclear along with the question of how he managed to smuggle a cake inside the Louvre museum. However, there have been attacks on the Mona Lisa painting previously as well.
