13 October 2023: At the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), the famed Hollywood actor and producer Michael Douglas will receive the prestigious Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award. Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, made the announcement in a post on X. The well-known actor will attend IFFI 54, an important event in the world of cinema, along with his wife, the illustrious actress and philanthropist Catherine Zeta Jones, and their actor son Dylan Douglas. Shailendra Singh, an Indian film producer who founded Percept Ltd. and the Sunburn music festival and is commemorating 25 years in the Indian film industry, will also be there.

Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur welcomed Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta Jones, and their son Dylan Douglas as he made the news on X. He continued by saying that India is keen to promote its rich film culture and distinctive customs and that it is widely known that Michael Douglas has a special affection for India.

The Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award was created in 1999 at the 30th IFFI and is given to those whose outstanding contributions have greatly improved and elevated the film industry. The legendary actor Michael Douglas has enthralled audiences all over the world with his unmatched talent and dedication to his trade.


With two Academy Awards, five Golden Globe Awards, and an Emmy Award under his belt, Michael Douglas has had a spectacular career. His performances in iconic films like "Wall Street (1987), "Basic Instinct (1992), "Falling Down (1993), "The American President (1995), "Traffic (2000)," and "Behind the Candelabra (2013)" have forever changed the course of cinema. The China Syndrome (1979), The Game (1999), and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) are just a few of the critically praised movies he has created. For his dedication to issues of disarmament, such as nuclear non-proliferation and ending the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons, he was named the UN Messenger of Peace in 1998.

The talented actress Catherine Zeta Jones has won awards for her extraordinary achievements to film and her dedication to philanthropy. She has received critical praise and multiple awards for her outstanding performances in movies like "Traffic" (2001), "Chicago" (2002), and "The Mask of Zorro" (1998). She has also won a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Award and an Academy Award.

As part of the 54th IFFI, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones will also be participating in a special In Conversation session hosted by the National Award-winning film producer, Shailendra Singh. Mr. Singh, renowned for his contributions to Indian cinema, is the founder of Percept Ltd. and the Sunburn Music Festival. His critically acclaimed productions, including "Phir Milenge" (2004) and "Kanchivaram" (2008), have garnered widespread recognition and a National Film Award for Best Film (Kanchivaram).

The Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award has previously honored luminaries such as Bernardo Bertolucci (IFFI 30), Carlos Saura (IFFI 53), Martin Scorsese (IFFI 52), Dilip Kumar (IFFI 38), Krzysztof Zanussi (IFFI 43), and Wong Kar-wai (IFFI 45), among other major film personalities.







Washington DC [US], September 3: On Saturday night, Oscar-winning director Roman Polanski's picture 'The Palace' received a 3-minute standing ovation at the Venice Picture Festival.

Polanski directed the black comedy from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jerzy Skolimowski and Ewa Piaskowska, according to Variety. "The Palace" takes place on New Year's Eve 1999, when a dinner party at the Gstaad Palace Hotel in Switzerland takes an unexpected turn.

Oliver Masucci, Fanny Ardant, John Cleese, Bronwyn James, Joaquim de Almeida, Luca Barbareschi, Milan Peschel, Fortunato Cerlino, Mickey Rourke, Alexander Petrov, and Viktor Dobronravov are among the cast members. Irina Kastrinidis, Olga Kent, Naike Anna Silipo, Matthew T. Reynolds, Teco Celio, Marina Strakhova, Michelle Shapa, Danylo Kotov, and Davide Gagliardi are among those who have participated.

'The Palace' set designer Tonino Zera won Venice's Campari Passion for Film award from creative director Alberto Barbera before the film's debut, according to Variety. Polanski has a history with Venice, having shown his 2011 feature 'Carnage,' starring Kate Winslet and Jodie Foster, as well as 2019's 'An Officer and a Spy,' according to Variety.
