Don’t Be Shy Trailer Review: Love, Chaos and College Drama Get a Fresh-Age Makeover
The trailer of Prime Video’s Don’t Be Shy arrives with the kind of youthful chaos that comes when first love, friendship, heartbreak and questionable decisions collide.

Backed by Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt, the upcoming young-adult romantic comedy looks ready to take the familiar college-romance formula and give it a more contemporary, Gen-Z flavour.
Directed and written by Sreeti Mukerji, the film introduces Aarushi Bajaj as Shyamili “Shy” Das, a young woman who seems to have her life perfectly mapped out. She wants the right image, the right relationships and, presumably, the right ending. Naturally, life has other plans.
The trailer quickly throws Shy into an emotional mess involving Mayank, played by Piyush Khati, her childhood friend Dhruv, played by Ansh Duggal, and Tara, portrayed by Bianca Arora. What begins as a story of love and heartbreak gradually expands into friendship, self-discovery and the uncomfortable process of growing up.
What makes the trailer interesting is that Shy isn't presented simply as the innocent girl caught between two boys. Her own choices, insecurities and carefully constructed version of herself appear to be at the centre of the conflict. That gives the story a little more substance than a straightforward romantic triangle.
The fresh cast is another major attraction. Aarushi Bajaj gets the most substantial introduction as Shy, and the trailer suggests that she has enough vulnerability beneath the character’s confident exterior to carry the emotional journey. Piyush Khati, Bianca Arora and Ansh Duggal bring a distinctly youthful energy, while Kunaal Roy Kapur, Neha Dhupia and Anurag Basu add familiar faces to the ensemble.
Visually, Don’t Be Shy leans into college-life vibrancy, colourful spaces, music and youthful chemistry rather than presenting itself as an overly polished romantic fantasy. The result feels closer to the messy reality of young relationships—where friendships change, egos get bruised and one bad decision can turn into an entire semester of drama.
The film is produced by Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt under Eternal Sunshine Productions, with Chalkboard Entertainment, and features music by Ram Sampath. It is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on September 25, 2026.
Trailer Verdict: Don’t Be Shy looks like a breezy coming-of-age romantic comedy with enough heartbreak, humour and youthful confusion to keep things lively. Its biggest strength could be the decision to make growing up not merely finding love the real story. If the film manages to retain the trailer’s natural energy without slipping into predictable college-romance territory, it could make for an entertaining OTT watch.
