Acclaimed filmmaker Aanand L Rai has added another prestigious accolade to his celebrated career by winning the Best Direction (Non-Feature Film) award at the 72nd National Film Awards for his documentary Statue of Unity: Ekta Ka Prateek.

The 40-minute Hindi documentary offers a glimpse into the creation of the Statue of Unity, the tallest statue in the world, dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's esteemed Iron Man. In addition to showcasing the engineering feat, the film narrates the broader story of nation-building and illustrates how Kevadia in Gujarat transformed into a globally recognized tourist destination through this landmark project.
Hosted by Akshay Kumar, the documentary also includes insights from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, providing viewers with a deeper understanding of the vision and resolve behind one of independent India's most notable infrastructure and cultural accomplishments.
Renowned for directing critically acclaimed and commercially successful films such as Tanu Weds Manu, Raanjhanaa, Atrangi Re, and the forthcoming Tere Ishk Mein, Aanand L Rai has consistently delved into deeply human stories.
